router slip-ups

I have a feeling that if the stove or finished cabinet side has been polished before the router puts on the profile edge that the router bit has a tendency to SLIP-PAST the profile edge into the straight eased edge side of the piece???????????? is there any truth in this or is it just bad control on the fabricator using the router??????
